2024 Cook-Off Judging Volunteer

Fill out the below information if you have an interest in being a "taste testing" judge for the 2024 Cook-off. Judging will be held on September 6th and 7th.


Judges must be 18 years old. All entries will be judged on APPEARANCE, TASTE, and TEXTURE. The scoring system values will range from Excellent being the best score to Poor being the worst score.

The weighting factors for the point system are as follows:
  1. Appearance: 18% (.72)
  2. Taste: 46.5% (1.86)
  3. Texture: 35.5% (1.42)
Single Round Judging - CBA Event Representative will allocate a recommended amount of 10 entries to a table with six (6) approved judges. The lowest score out of the 6 judges will be dropped. The remaining 5 scores will be used to determine category placement. Once all 4 CBA categories are scored, we will add those 4 scores together to determine overall placement.

Judges must check in at the Los Fresnos Lions Hall at the times listed below:

Judges will be selected to judge on a first come - first served bases. One week before the event the judges will be notified that they have been selected to judge and will confirm that they will be present at the event. Those not selected will also be informed at this time and may be asked to to be present at the event as an alternate in case of no-shows.


Judging opportunities:

  • Saturday, September 7th: 9:30 AM arrival for a 10:00 AM judging of Beans
  • Saturday, September 7th: 10:30 AM arrival for an 11:00 AM judging of Kids Q Pork Chops
  • Saturday, September 7th: 11:30 AM arrival for a 12:00 PM judging of Chicken
  • Saturday, September 7th: 12:30 PM arrival for a 1:00 PM judging of Pork Ribs
  • Saturday, September 7th: 1:30 PM arrival for a 2:00 PM judging of Brisket
  • Saturday, September 7th: 2:30 PM arrival for a 3:00 PM judging of Fajitas
